The Institute for Responsible Citizenship Summer Programs
The Institute for Responsible Citizenship operates programs in Washington and New York. Both programs consist of eight-week summers.
Washington Program
The core program, initiated in 2003, works this way: Students work full-time at internships that are arranged with their career goals in mind. They take three courses for academic credit, including a course on Economics and Public Policy and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Course on Constitutional Principles. They also attend private briefings at many of Washington’s most important institutions and interact with some of the nation’s most prominent figures. During the first summer, students focus on classes, internships, meetings with inspirational leaders, and bonding with the other young men in their cohort. Professional development, character development, mentorship, and graduate school preparation are priorities for the second summer, although students still work full-time and take a seminar with the Institute’s president.

New York Program
The KPMG Summer Scholars Program was first offered in 2007. Very similar to the Washington program in structure, the KPMG Program focuses more on professional development in the fields of accounting. Scholars are paired with senior-level KPMG partners to work on important client engagements and participate in various activities that provide a complete introduction to tax, audit, and advisory services.

Youth Scholar Academy
The Institute will operate a program for four African American male college students who are interested in youth leadership and education to participate in our new program that will ultimately serve hundreds of high school boys. The scholars will be fully integrated into the Institute’s core program. During their first summer, their internships will be at youth-serving organizations. During their second summer, the scholars will lead 2 two-week sessions for high-achieving African American male high school students.
